Annual celebration - Chrstian Open Doors

30-03-2020For many members of this globe-spanning flock, the annual celebration is the highpoint of the church calendar. This time, someone in the congregation was carrying the coronavirus. The prayer meeting spawned off the biggest cluster of COVID-19 in France – one of northern Europe's hardest-hit countries – to date, local government said. Around 2,500 confirmed cases have been linked to it. Worshippers at the church have unwittingly taken the disease caused by the virus home to the West African state of Burkina Faso, to the Mediterranean island of Corsica, to Guyana in Latin America, to Switzerland, to a French nuclear power plant and into the workshops of one of Europe's biggest automakers.

From the stage of an evangelical superchurch, the leader of the gospel choir kicked off an evening of prayer and preaching: “We’re going to celebrate the Lord! Are you feeling the joy tonight?”

Church Mount Vernon, Washington

When 61 people met for a choir practice in a church in Mount Vernon, Washington, on 10 March, everything seemed normal. For 2.5 hours the chorists sang, snacked on cookies and oranges, and sang some more. But one of them had been suffering for 3 days from what felt like a cold—and turned out to be COVID-19. In the following weeks, 53 choir members got sick, three were hospitalized, and two died, according to a 12 May report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that meticulously reconstructed the tragedy.

Sacramento, california

A large and influential Russian language church near Sacramento, California, is denying it is at the center of a novel coronavirus outbreak. In an interview with a Sacramento television station on Thursday, Sacramento County Department of Health Services director Dr. Peter Beilenson confirmed at least 70 people at the Bethany Slavic Missionary Church were infected with Covid-19.

He said he named the church "not to cast aspersions on anybody but to really hammer home the importance of not congregating, not only in church but also in prayer gatherings in people's homes." It is one of the largest outbreak clusters of the virus in the US.

One member was seriously ill enough to be hospitalized but is now on the mend, church leaders said.
